Mr. M. Zeki Sarıbekir continued on with his education abroad in UK subsequent to graduation from Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Zeki Sarıbekir worked for two different packaging companies abroad for two years following his master and in 1996 he took office within the incorporation of the family company titled Sarten Ambalaj A.Ş. by virtue of his visionary and entrepreneurial perspective, Zeki Sarıbekir achieved to make Sarten one of the most prominent packaging companies in Turkey and he has been fulfilling his duties as CEO since 2004 and as the Chairman of the company since 2009. In 2017, Zeki Sarıbekir was elected as the President of the Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD). He is a member of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association (IDDMIB), Aerosol Industrialists Association (ASAD) and the European Metal Packaging Association (MPE), based in Brussels. Zeki Sarıbekir is Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) of Turkey-Bulgaria Business Council Vice President and members of Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey-Netherlands & Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey-Japan. He is also a member of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Recovery and Recycling Foundation ( ÇEVKO), Rigid Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association (SEPA) and Turkey Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Packaging Assembly.
Presentation Title: Turkish Packaging Industry
In this presentation, which is the opening speech of ASD Packaging Congress 2019- International Packaging Industry Congress, the innovations in the packaging sector and the future of our sector together with the stakeholders for value added production will be evaulated. The participants will be informed about the congress. Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD) serves the sector today with over 200 its members as one of the most powerful non-governmental organizations in the Turkish packaging sector. Crescents and Stars of Packaging Competition, Packaging Design National Student Competition and ASD Packaging Academy which are some of the activities of the Association are the organizations that bring the sector together. Eurasia Packaging Fair is being held this year twenty-fifth times, contributes to the development of the Turkey Packaging Industry in the international arena. Turkish Packaging Sector is among the rare sectors that contribute positively to the foreign trade deficit of the country with the added value it creates. The sector, which gave a foreign trade surplus of 918 million dollars in the first 6 months of 2019 continues its growth in exports. The sector exports to 180 countries. Total packaging exports increased by 11 percent in 2018 was 1.26 million tons. In terms of value, annual exports reached by 1 percent 2.3 billion dollars. Packaging industry is working to be able to export at least half of all packaging produced in Turkey. Two points are important in packaging production; “Sustainability” and “Circular Economy”. Today, very detailed studies are carried out for packaging production using the minimum possible material. Packaging is not a waste material and recycling of the packaging is not a burden on the environment. Packages are the materials that create economy. Recycling of packaging waste contributes to our country economy and the environment.
