Ms. Aslihan Arikan graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering and completed the M.S. program on Polymer Science and Technology at Middle East Technical University (METU). She employed as engineer, specialist, project coordinator and consultant at different public institutions and private companies. She has given packaging seminars around the world. She speaks and writes English. Several packaging publications have been edited or written by her. She is also the Editor in Chief of the "Ambalaj Dünyası-Packaging World" & "Pack Converting" magazines. Aslihan Arikan is a member of IPPO (lnternational Packaging Press Organization) & IOPP (lnstitute of Packaging Professionals in the US). She is also the 1st Vice President of APF (Asian Packaging Federation) and the Vice President of Education of WPO (World Packaging Organisation).
Presentation Title: Drivers for Packaging Development and Trends in Turkey and the Eurasian Region
In today's economy there is an important question to be answered: What should we give priority for sustainable social welfare? "More consumption for economic development" model? Or conservation of resources? A few grams of packaging materials are considered as an important environmental problem when we view, several kilograms of retten fruit are ignored. According to WPO, the target should be better quality of life through betler packaging for more people. Turkey has 80 million population that is increasing 1,5% every year. The number of cities populated ever 1 million is 20. The country is one of the main packaging suppliers in the Eurasian region. Turkish manufacturing industry is expanding & packaging industry fulfills the requirement of this expansion in Eurasian region.
