He is graduated from Manchester University in 1983, Department of Polymer Chemistry. In the same year, he established Plastic Products Industry and Trade Inc. in Gaziantep. Between 1984-1989, he produced irrigation and electrical pipes, liner bags, Carrier bags, greenhouse covers from polyethylene recycling and also from original raw materials. In 1989, he joined SASA polyester plant in Adana, Turkey's leading Corporation. He retired from SASA in 2007. He joined Meltem Kimya Inc. as Technical General Manager and involved in prosess developments in Plasticiser Plant. In 2009 Turkey's first national-capitalized continuous PET plant is established and start up in 2009. Meltem Kimya is then established Turkey’s first depolymerization plants to recovered polyester wastes to produce DOTP plasticizer, and by using same the technology he start producing rPET for food grade applications in 2014. He is still continues to work as a CTO at Meltem Kimya AŞ and carries out R & D studies.
Presentation Title: rPET
As is known, PET is one of the most widely used packaging plastics in the world. It is seen that the amount of usage increases rapidly according to years. When a sustainable environmental policy is taken into consideration, it is inevitable to recover these plastic materials that are placed on the market. For this reason, countries promote the recycling process with various regulations and make the reuse of these materials mandatory by regulations. In our country, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food is making rules and regulations and put into practice to condition of recycling. These regulations determines the amount of reuse in the plastic packaging that was put into market. Recycling amounts are will increase according to years. This rate is 6% for plastics for this year. The Ministry has identified the polyester recovery method to be used in contact with food in Turkey is only depolymerization method. PET’s that are recovered by physical methods cannot be used in food contact products.
