Thomas Glaser

Thomas Glaser, Head of Technology Sheetfed at Siegwerk Switzerland AG, has been working for 28 years in the field of printing inks in various positions. Since 2015 he is developing offset inks and UV coating systems for the packaging and commercial sectors at Siegwerk Switzerland AG. His developments are including low migration, iron doped ,LED and EB technologies, Cradle-to-Cradle and UV-/LED-UV Deinking.

Presentation Title: “Circular Economy & Sustainability: Importance of Deinkability” 

The sustainability of wood and paper plays an important role in the move from a linear to a circular economy. Printed paper is recycled more than any other commodity in the solid waste stream and is often the dominant raw material used in paper production. Printed papers are best suited for recycling when the printing ink film can be removed to a very high degree by the flotation deinking process. New developments in the case of UV/LED curable inks are showing huge improvements in this area and are helping to positively contribute to the circular economy & sustainability.
