Gülay Gamze Güven

Gamze Guven, designer in Istanbul, studied industrial design in Middle East Technical University, graduated in 1987 and completed her MSc in 1990 in the Faculty of Architecture at the same university. She had worked for a decade both as a board member of the Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey (ETMK) various times and also she was the Vice-President of Creative Industries of Turkey lbetween 2013-2015. Since 2016 she  works as a part time instructor in Ozyegin University Department of Industrial Design. Since 1990 she has been working as design consultant and since 19 years she is the manager and creative director in her company Tasarım Üssü Ltd. With her team she is undertaking industrial design, food design and packaging design projects in different sectors for a number of local and international companies. The packages, foods and products which are designed by Tasarım Ussu have over hundered official design patents and has a significant amount of national-international award.

Summary

Presentation Title: Should Packaging be Designed or should Design be Packed?

In "Shall we design the packaging? some packaging designs from her company “Tasarımussu” will be presented. Reasons of the environmental pollution and as designers and producers how we shall consider this problem will be examined. It is necesary to change life styles, habits, suppy chains, that means the whole system. In "Shall we pack the design?" future of the packaging sector will be discussed. Pioneer global companies’ like Nike and new companies like TerraCycle, Preserve’s projects will be presented and system changes that are foreseen will be discussed. Packaging supplier companies which are willing to work for these global companies, shouldn't be late and foresee the change and expectations. So in order to protect them from missing opportunities, some proposals will be mentioned.
