Presentation Title: Permeation basics and their importance for the packaging industry
In this presentation we will show what gas permeation through plastic food packaging materials is, what its fundamental aspects are and why its mesurements is crucial for the food packaging industries. Differences between permeation and diffusion; Fick’s law; intrinsic and polymeric properties affecting permeation: polymer characteristics, enviromental conditions, technological factors., testing permeation of flat materials vs. testing permeation of finished food packages, various case histories of real food packaging applications will be presented to show practically how permeation testing can help food industries to design or select the most suitable packaging for their specifc applications and products.
