M. Mete IMER, attended TED Ankara College; received his
B.Sc. at METU, his M.Sc. as a Fulbright grantee at the OSU in Mechanical
Engineering and his Postgraduate Management Certicifate from the University of
Hull.
He started his business career in 1988 in the US and worked
in Belgium before relocating to Turkey. After assuming engineering and
management roles in multinational companies in consumer goods and energy
sectors, he joined ÇEVKO Foundation in 2003.
Mr. IMER has served as the General Manager, the Secretary
General and a member of the Executive Committee at ÇEVKO. He represents ÇEVKO
at EXPRA, PRO Europe and at the TOBB Assemblies for Packaging and for Durable
Consumer Products.
Presentation Title: Principles to Avoid Greenwashing for
Sustainable Packaging
"Greenwashing", which expresses positive claims
about sustainability that are not based on data, has attracted reactions all
over the world in recent years. Therefore, some public authorities and
authorized institutions, also from Turkey, have started to take action in this
regard.
In this presentation, definition of greenwashing; misleading
environmental claims; basic principles to avoid greenwashing, based on the
guidance published by the UK Competition and Markets Authority are explained.
Information about “the Guide on Advertisements with Environmental
Statements" published by the Turkish Ministry of Commerce is also
given. The presentation includes
interesting examples, the majority of which are about packaging.
