Umay Cubukcu is a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of
Letters, Department of Psychology and Mimar Sinan Academy of Fine Arts, Graphic
Design Department.
She worked as Creative Art Director at Manajans Thompson,
RPM Radar, and Medina Turgul DDB Advertising Agency during 1990- 2000. To concentrate on her favorite area of
Packaging Design, she started and directed with Mr. Jeffi Medina DDB GRAFIS
CIZGIALTI AGENCY in 2000. In 2005, she
started [UMAY Design Agency….] on her own with the ideal of pursuing Packaging
Design in a boutique setting, as of jewelry workmanship needing special care
and attention.
Since her school years, Umay has been prodigiously
recognized and honored with: Ataturk Cultural Center Poster Awards; the Yunus
Nadi Poster Award; Crystal Apple Press Awards; GMK Logo, Direct Mail, Calendar,
Book Cover, Activity Reports, and Brochure Awards; Knorr Besiktas Wall Design
Awards; Media Cat Outdoor First Place Awards; and many ASDs--Packaging Crescent
Star Awards.

Design is not just about how it looks and how it feels.

Shelves are the place where a brand meets its consumers in a
short period of time...nowadays the internet...packaging design is the formula
of how you say the features of your brand that make it unique from its
competitors in the simplest, most effective and correct way in that short
period of time...Either you bring your product together with its consumers in
that short period of time and sell it, or you lose to a competitor who explains
and markets the brand of the same product much more accurately. Everything
happens and ends in a short moment... In this context, the design should not
get ahead of the product, it should be a smart design that sells the product
directly.
Smart design is a design that has studied its consumers and
competitors well, has high awareness, conveys what it wants to say quickly and
accurately without drowning in long sentences and complex visuals, and uses
those three seconds correctly.
Less is More!
Therefore, packaging design is like sewing a garment that
fits you perfectly and has the power to tell your personality, character, who
you are, what you want to say, your perspective on life in a short time......
it should be like a dress sewn only for that brand and
product, that no one else can wear... this determines your uniqueness and power
on the shelf...
